Don't Like the New "Mute" Button Function As a Pause Button

I just completed the newest update, and I don't like that the speaker will not resume at the same volume level after holding the volume button. You have effectively removed the "Mute" function. Here's a suggestion for correction: Make the "Mute" button multifunctional: Momentary - Mute; Hold - Pause.

If you can't do this, then return the mute function to the "Mute" button. We can still pause play with the Sonos application.

We hear you and understand where you’re coming from.  We also understand that our communication on this thread hasn’t been up to standard and apologize for that.

The request to change the mute button to a pause button was both long-running and popular. Many people wanted a way to quickly pause (and then resume) their music without having to open and use a controller.  At the same time, we understood that the mute functionality was used and loved by many, so it was moved to the volume minus, which now quickly mutes the player when held down.  The PLAY:1 was the first player to feature a button labeled as a pause, and we’re progressively rolling out this change to the full product line.

We don’t intend to revert the play / pause button change, nor do we intend to add an option to toggle functionality at this time.  Play / pause provides more functionality while keeping the same usability as the old mute button through holding volume minus.

That said, we understand that there are two main issues with the play / pause button that have been raised over the course of the thread:

  1. It’s too easy to disrupt other members of the house when using play / pause and grouped players.
  2. The mute behavior from volume minus isn’t quite right.

We’re looking at ways to address both of these issues in the future and will share more information here as it becomes available.
